How to Change the Disk Driver to Virtio or IDE in SolusVM

Updated 1 min read

Ucartz VPS use Virtualizor. If your VPS is with Ucartz, manage it from the Ucartz client area (Services › My Services › your VPS). The steps below are for VPS managed with SolusVM.

Virtio gives the best disk performance; IDE is slower but works with systems that have no Virtio drivers, such as some Windows installers.

Steps

  1. Log in to the SolusVM control panel (the address and login are in your VPS welcome email) and open your VPS.
  2. Open the VPS settings and find the disk driver option.
  3. Choose Virtio or IDE and save.
  4. Reboot the VPS.

Note: Changing the disk driver of an installed system can stop it from booting, because the disk name changes (for example /dev/vda and /dev/sda). Make sure your system can boot with the new driver, and keep a backup.
