WHMSonic Installation: Why New Installs No Longer Work and How to Install SonicPanel Instead

Updated 3 min read

Updated: 8 October 2026 · Applies to: WHMSonic (discontinued, vendor site checked with curl 8.7.1); SonicPanel 3.34 on AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux 9 and 10 (from SonicPanel documentation)

New WHMSonic installations are no longer possible. WHMSonic, the WHM plugin for selling SHOUTcast radio hosting from a cPanel server, has been discontinued: its website now redirects to sonicpanel.com, and the old installer and fix scripts return server errors, so the installation command this article used to give fails. For a new radio server, install SonicPanel, the standalone panel from the WHMSonic developers, or use Centova Cast. If you still run WHMSonic, see what replaced WHMSonic and moving radios off WHMSonic to a new server.

What we checked

$ curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code} %{redirect_url}\n" http://www.whmsonic.com/
302 https://sonicpanel.com/
$ curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}\n" http://www.whmsonic.com/setupr/installr.sh
520

The home page redirects to SonicPanel and the old installer download fails. According to SonicPanel, WHMSonic was first released in 2004, "made 16 years of service", and SonicPanel was then built by the same developer team. The vendor's store now sells SonicPanel licences only (monthly, yearly or for three years).

What SonicPanel needs

SonicPanel is not a WHM plugin, so it does not go on your cPanel server. According to SonicPanel's installation guide:

  • A clean VPS or dedicated server with no other control panel or services. SonicPanel warns that installing it next to other software may cause data loss.
  • Operating system: AlmaLinux 9.x or 10.x, or Rocky Linux 9.x or 10.x.
  • An active licence for the server's IP address before you install. The licence is tied to that IP; see finding the main server IP if you are unsure which address the server uses.
  • CPU: SonicPanel recommends an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or better, or an Intel Xeon such as the E-2236, and no Intel CPU below 3.0 GHz.
  • Ports: the root panel answers on 2086 (2087 with SSL), clients log in on port 80 (443 with SSL), and FTP uploads need port 21 plus passive ports 49152 to 65534.

Install outline

We did not run the installer (SonicPanel is licensed software); these steps follow SonicPanel's own guide, which sonicpanel.com links under How to install?.

  1. Order a SonicPanel licence on sonicpanel.com, or move an existing one to the new server's IP address in SonicPanel's client area (Manage Licenses, Change License IP).
  2. Install a fresh AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux 9 or 10 server and log in as root over SSH.
  3. Run SonicPanel's installer:
    curl -o latest -L https://get.sonicpanel.com/latest; sh latest
    According to SonicPanel it takes 5 to 7 minutes, and warnings during the run are normal. Wait for the final result.
  4. Open http://SERVER-IP:2086 and log in as root with the server's root password.
  5. Set a hostname and SSL (setting the hostname in SonicPanel, setting an SSL certificate), then create radio packages and radios (adding a radio package, creating a radio).

If the panel reports a licence problem, SonicPanel says to check that the server IP has an active licence and that the server can reach sonicpanel.com.
