Install Redis PHP Extention using PECL on WHM Server

Updated 1 min read

Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: cPanel & WHM 138 (WHM, root access)

The PHP Redis extension lets applications such as WordPress (with a Redis cache plugin), Laravel or Magento use a Redis server for caching and sessions.

Install the extension (WHM)

  1. Log in to WHM as root (https://your-server:2087).
  2. Open Software › Module Installers and click Manage next to PHP PECL.
  3. Choose the PHP version, search for redis and click Install.
  4. Repeat for each PHP version your sites use, then restart PHP-FPM:
    /usr/local/cpanel/scripts/restartsrv_apache_php_fpm

Check with /opt/cpanel/ea-php83/root/usr/bin/php -m | grep redis.

A Redis server

The extension only connects to Redis. You also need a Redis server running on the machine or elsewhere; secure it with a password or bind it to 127.0.0.1 so it is not reachable from the internet.
