Now you can simply generate a public-private key for root server access, directly via WHM / cPanel.

1. In whm, search for “Manage root’s, SSH Keys”. Here you will find 2 options i.e Generate a key and import a key.

2. Click on generate a key and give the key a name eg. ucartz and enter a password.

Note:  Save the ppk version of the key, ppk version is generally used to connect server via the key.

3. Authorize the key generated, by selecting the option “Manage authorization” against the public key listed in the WHM itself.

After creating the key, you need to share the private key with the person to whom you want to give root access of the server.  If you want the ppk file, you can click on “view/download key” and there is an option to convert the same.
