By default, MySQL databases on cPanel only accept connections from the server itself. To connect from your computer or another server (for example with MySQL Workbench or HeidiSQL), allow that computer's IP address first.
Steps
- Log in to cPanel (for example at
https://yourdomain.com:2083, or from the Ucartz client area). - Find your public IP address, for example by searching "what is my IP".
- Open Databases › Remote Database Access (called Remote MySQL in older versions).
- Enter the IP address in Host and a note in Comment, then click Add Host.
Connect
- Host: your domain name or the server's IP address (not
localhost) - Port:
3306 - Username and database: the full names, including the
username_prefix
Note: Only add fixed IP addresses you trust, and remove them when you are done. A wildcard such as % opens your databases to the whole internet. If the connection still times out, open a support ticket: the server firewall may need to allow your IP address.
