Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: Virtualizor VPS panel (end user)

Rescue mode starts your VPS from a small recovery system (based on Debian) instead of its own disk, so you can repair a system that no longer boots or copy your data off it. It works on KVM VPS.

Steps

  1. Log in to the Ucartz client area, open Services › My Services and click your VPS. The Virtualizor VPS dashboard is on the service page. (You can also log in to the Virtualizor panel directly with the address in your VPS welcome email and open the VPS from List VPS.)
  2. Click Rescue Mode.
  3. Enter a root password for the rescue system and enable rescue mode. The first time can take 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Connect with SSH to the VPS IP address as root with that password.
  5. Your VPS disk is available to mount, for example: lsblk to find it, then mount /dev/vda1 /mnt.

You can then fix configuration files, reset a password or copy data. When you are done, disable rescue mode (see the next guide).
