Themes you buy or download elsewhere come as a .zip file that you upload to WordPress.

Upload in the dashboard

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard (https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin).
  2. Open Appearance › Themes › Add Theme and click Upload Theme.
  3. Click Choose File, select the theme .zip and click Install Now.
  4. Click Activate.

Upload by FTP (for large themes)

Unzip the theme on your computer and upload its folder to wp-content/themes/ with FTP or File Manager. It then appears in Appearance › Themes, ready to activate.

Note: Some downloads contain the theme zip inside another zip with documentation. If WordPress says "The package could not be installed", unzip the download and upload the inner theme file. Only use themes from trusted sources.
