"Uncategorized" is WordPress's default category, and the default category cannot be deleted. Make another category the default first, or simply rename Uncategorized.

Delete it

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard (https://yourdomain.com/wp-admin).
  2. Create the category you want to use (Posts › Categories).
  3. Open Settings › Writing, choose it as the Default Post Category and click Save Changes.
  4. Go back to Posts › Categories, hover over "Uncategorized" and click Delete.

Posts that were only in Uncategorized move to the new default category.

Or rename it

Hover over "Uncategorized", click Quick Edit, change the name and slug, and click Update Category.
