Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: Apache 2.4 (.htaccess)

mod_pagespeed was an Apache module that rewrote pages to make them faster. The project has been retired and is no longer maintained. If your server still has it and it causes problems, turn it off for your site.

Turn it off for one site

Add this to the site's .htaccess:

<IfModule pagespeed_module>
    ModPagespeed off
</IfModule>

Tip: For speed today, use a caching plugin, image optimisation and a CDN.
