Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: cPanel & WHM 138 (Jupiter theme)

This error means the domain is already configured somewhere on the server, so cPanel will not add it to your account.

Common causes and fixes

  • The domain is already an addon domain, subdomain or alias in your own account. Check Domains › Domains and remove it there first.
  • The domain is set up in another hosting account with us, for example an older one. Remove it from that account, or ask us to.
  • The domain was used by another customer on the same server before you. Open a support ticket; we will confirm ownership (for example through the registrar's WHOIS or a DNS record) and release the domain.

Also check the spelling: www.example.com and example.com count as the same domain.
