Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: Self-managed dedicated servers (IPv4 subnets /29 to /24, cart prices of September 2026)
How many IP addresses come with a dedicated server depends on the plan. Many plans include 1 usable IPv4 address, and some plans include 5 usable addresses (a /29 block). The plan description and the cart show what your plan includes, for example "IP Assignments: 1 usable IPv4". When you need more, you can add subnets from /29 up to /24. This article explains what these numbers mean, how many addresses you really can use, what the extra blocks cost, and what to think about before you choose.
What "/29" and "/24" mean
The number after the slash tells you how many addresses are in the block. The smaller the number, the bigger the block. Not every address can be given to a server: the first address of a block identifies the network, the last one is the broadcast address, and one address is used by the gateway (the router of the data centre). What is left is what you can assign to your services.
- /29: 8 IPv4 addresses in total, 5 usable.
- /28: 16 addresses, 13 usable.
- /27: 32 addresses, 29 usable.
- /26: 64 addresses, 61 usable.
- /25: 128 addresses, 125 usable.
- /24: 256 addresses, 253 usable.
What additional blocks cost
Additional blocks are priced per month and added to your server. The prices below are the ones shown in the Ucartz cart in September 2026, in US dollars per month:
- Additional /29 (5 usable): about 10 to 30, depending on the server and on how the request is arranged (the cart shows 30 for some servers).
- Additional /28 (13 usable): 60.
- Additional /27 (29 usable): 136.
- Additional /26 (61 usable): 172.
- Additional /25 (125 usable): 331.
- Additional /24 (253 usable): 512.
Not every server model offers every block in the cart. For the exact price for your server and location, or for a custom request, open a ticket (How to order an additional IPv4 subnet for your dedicated server?). The cart always shows the current price, and prices can change.
What can you do with more than one IP address?
- Several websites or applications that need their own address (for example for an SSL setup, for allow-listing by a partner, or for separate firewall rules): How to run several websites on separate IP addresses with Nginx?.
- Virtual machines and containers that need public addresses.
- Services that must leave from a specific address: API calls, outgoing connections, or mail servers whose reputation belongs to one IP: How to choose the outgoing (source) IP address for a service, script or website?.
- Separating customers or projects, each with its own address, reverse DNS name and firewall rules.
Rules to know
- Every additional subnet has its own gateway. You configure it on your server together with its addresses (How to add additional IPv4 addresses on Ubuntu with netplan?, How to add additional IPv4 addresses on AlmaLinux or Rocky Linux with nmcli?). Ucartz also processes custom requests, such as a few addresses from several different subnets; see How to order an additional IPv4 subnet for your dedicated server?.
- IP addresses are final after delivery. Under the terms of service Ucartz does not swap, rotate or replace the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of a delivered server on request, and does not move IPs between servers. Exceptions are renumbering required by the network, compliance actions and abuse mitigation.
- The location is chosen at order time and a delivered server is not moved to another data centre (Ucartz dedicated server locations, IP address rules and additional IP support).
- Reverse DNS (PTR) is managed for you in the client area: How to set reverse DNS (PTR) for many IP addresses and check forward-confirmed rDNS?.
- If you later ask to remove additional IP blocks, Ucartz may check how they were used and can charge for blocklist clean-up when it applies.
Which subnet size do I need?
Count what you will run, add a reserve, and read How many IP addresses do you need for your dedicated server?. When in doubt, start with a small block and add a bigger one later.
Frequently asked questions
Are all addresses of a block free for me to use?
All usable addresses are yours to assign. One of them is the address you use to log in to the server.
Do I get IPv6?
The terms mention IPv4 and IPv6 addresses assigned with the server. Check your delivery details for what your server has.
Where does this information come from?
From the Ucartz cart and product descriptions, and from the terms of service.
