Question

When accessing Centova Cast, you see an error message like this one:

Warning: stream_socket_client(): unable to connect to localhost:465 (Connection refused) in /usr/local/centovacast/system/PEAR/Net/Socket.php on line 159

What does this mean, and how do you fix it?

Answer

This means Centova Cast cannot connect to its database. The connection refused on port 465 points at a local MySQL/MariaDB connection problem on the server, not at Centova Cast's streaming side. Common causes:

  • MySQL is not running. Start it to fix this.
  • The configured MySQL host or IP has changed. Edit /usr/local/centovacast/etc/centovacast.conf and check the DB_HOST value.
  • MySQL is listening on a Unix domain socket in an unusual location that Centova Cast did not detect during installation. Find the socket path with:
ps aux | grep mysql | grep socket
    You should see something like:
    mysql 1945 0.1 12.8 562728 32792 ? Sl Mar04 182:31 /usr/sbin/mysqld --socket=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock --pid-file=/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.pid
The path after --socket (here, /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock) is the socket location. If this does not show a path, check your MySQL configuration file (usually /etc/mysql/my.cnf) for the socket = line instead. Then edit /usr/local/centovacast/etc/cc-system.conf and set mysql.default_socket to the correct path.

After changing either config file, restart Centova Cast's web service so it picks up the new setting, then reload the Centova Cast admin page to confirm the error is gone.
