"Error establishing a database connection" (or a similar message) means your website cannot log in to its database.

Check, in this order

  1. The details in your application's configuration file (for WordPress, DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD and DB_HOST in wp-config.php) match the database and user in Databases › Manage My Databases, including the username_ prefix.
  2. The user is added to the database with privileges.
  3. The host is localhost on our cPanel hosting.
  4. The database is not damaged: in Databases › Manage My Databases, use Check Database and Repair Database.

If everything is correct and the error continues, the database server may be busy or down; open a support ticket.
