Updated: 11 October 2026 · Applies to: AlmaLinux 9, Rocky Linux 9, Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 12

On current Linux systems, Perl is updated with the operating system's packages. Do not replace the system Perl with a hand-built version; other system tools depend on it.

Update Perl (root)

dnf update perl # AlmaLinux / Rocky
apt update && apt upgrade perl # Ubuntu / Debian

cPanel uses its own Perl (in /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/perl/), which cPanel updates itself. If an application needs a newer Perl than the system provides, install it separately with a tool such as perlbrew for that application.
