Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: cPanel & WHM 138 (WHM, root access)

By default, cPanel's raw Apache access logs can only be read by the account owner and the server. If an outside log analyser must read them, you can change the permissions cPanel gives these files.

Steps

  1. Log in to WHM as root (https://your-server:2087).
  2. Open Server Configuration › Tweak Settings.
  3. In the search box, type chmod to find the permissions setting for raw Apache log files.
  4. Enter the new mode, for example 0644, and click Save.

Note: Log files contain visitors' IP addresses and requested URLs. Only widen the permissions if the program that reads them needs it, and prefer adding that program's user to the right group instead.
