By default the web server shows index.html or index.php when someone opens a folder. You can choose a different start page, such as home.html, with the DirectoryIndex setting.
Add to .htaccess
In the .htaccess file of public_html:
DirectoryIndex home.html index.html index.php
Apache tries the files in order and shows the first one that exists. The setting also applies to subfolders.
Tip: Visitors see https://yourdomain.com/ in the address bar, not /home.html, which is better for search engines than a redirect.
