Install DNS option on SolusVM: ld-linux.so.2 bad ELF interpreter, No such file or directory

Updated 1 min read

Updated: 11 October 2026 · Applies to: AlmaLinux 9, Rocky Linux 9, Ubuntu 24.04 and Debian 12

"bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory" with /lib/ld-linux.so.2 means you are running a 32-bit program on a 64-bit Linux system that does not have the 32-bit C library installed. It can happen with older installers, including SolusVM's DNS component.

Fix

Install the 32-bit glibc package:

# AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS
dnf install glibc.i686 # yum install glibc.i686 on older systems

# Ubuntu, Debian
dpkg --add-architecture i386
apt update && apt install libc6:i386

Then run the program or installer again. If it reports other missing libraries, install their 32-bit versions the same way (packages ending in .i686 or :i386).

Check a program

file ./install # shows whether it is a 32-bit or 64-bit executable
