Updated: 2 November 2026 · Applies to: Webuzo 4 (4.8.x, Roundcube 1.6), according to Webuzo documentation

In Webuzo 4, Roundcube is the built-in webmail, so there is nothing to install from the Enduser Panel any more. You make sure the mail server (Exim and Dovecot) is installed, check that Roundcube webmail is switched on in the admin panel, create an email account, and then log in at yourdomain.com/webmail with the full email address and its password.

The older steps for this article (Enduser Panel, Mails category, Roundcube, Install Now) belong to Webuzo 2, where Roundcube was a separate script. The steps below follow Webuzo's own documentation for the current Webuzo 4 panel. We could not install Webuzo in a test environment, so menu names are as Webuzo documents them.

Step 1: Check that the mail server is installed

Roundcube only shows mail that Exim (sending) and Dovecot (IMAP) handle. According to Webuzo, both are in the default app list of a new Webuzo 4 install, but check before you start:

  1. Log in to the Webuzo Admin Panel (port 2005 over HTTPS by default, for example https://your-server-ip:2005).
  2. Open Apps and then Installed Apps. Exim and Dovecot should be listed.
  3. If either is missing, open Apps and then Install an App, search for the app, open it and click Install. The Log option shows each step and any error.

Step 2: Make sure Roundcube webmail is enabled

  1. In the Admin Panel, go to Email and then Mail settings.
  2. In the Basic Editor, make sure Enable Roundcube/Webmail is turned on, and save.

According to Webuzo, this setting enables or disables the Roundcube webmail interface for every user on the server.

Step 3: Create an email account

  1. Log in to the Webuzo Enduser Panel (port 2003 over HTTPS by default, for example https://yourdomain.com:2003).
  2. Go to Email and then Email Account.
  3. Fill in Email Address (choose the domain from the list) and Email Password.
  4. Click Create Account. A pop-up confirms the account was created.

Your domain also needs an MX record that points to this server before mail from outside can arrive. You can check and add it under the MX record pages in the Enduser Panel.

Step 4: Log in to Roundcube

According to Webuzo, webmail answers on these addresses by default (replace yourdomain.com with your domain):

  • https://mail.yourdomain.com (needs a DNS record for mail.yourdomain.com)
  • https://yourdomain.com:2003/mail (or http://yourdomain.com:2002/mail without SSL)

Log in with the full email address (for example alice@yourdomain.com) and the password from step 3. Since Webuzo 4.5.1, users can change their mailbox password and turn on two-factor authentication from inside Roundcube.

Optional: run webmail on its own port

Some networks block ports 2002 and 2003. In the Admin Panel under Email, Mail settings, turn on Enable Custom Webmail Port. According to Webuzo, the defaults are then 2096 for SSL and 2095 without SSL (you can choose any free port with Custom Webmail Port SSL and Custom Webmail Port Non SSL), so webmail opens at https://yourdomain.com:2096. The /webmail and mail. addresses keep working. Open the new port in your server firewall if you use one.

Optional: allow larger attachments

According to Webuzo, the attachment limit is set in the Roundcube configuration file /var/webuzo-data/roundcube/config/config.inc.php. Add this line at the end of the $config section (the example allows 200 MB):

$config['max_message_size'] = 200 * 1024 * 1024;

For limits above 128 MB, also set upload_max_filesize and post_max_size to the same value (for example 200M) in /usr/local/emps/etc/php.ini. Then restart Webuzo as root:

service webuzo restart

Email encoding adds about a third to the size of a file, so a 200 MB limit allows attachments of roughly 150 MB.

If Roundcube cannot connect

  • Roundcube's "Connection to storage server failed" message usually means Dovecot (IMAP) is stopped. Check that Exim and Dovecot are running in the Admin Panel under Apps, Services, and restart them there.
  • Check that you log in with the full email address, not only the part before the @.
  • If the login page does not open at all, check that Enable Roundcube/Webmail is on (step 2) and that ports 2002, 2003 (or your custom ports) are open in the firewall.

To read the same mailbox in a desktop or phone mail app as well, use your domain as the server name, IMAP port 993 and SMTP port 465, both with SSL: the settings Webuzo's own Roundcube guide uses for its mail server.
