Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: CloudLinux OS with cPanel & WHM

An inode is one file or folder. Hosting plans limit the number of inodes, so users need to see how many they use. On cPanel servers with CloudLinux, show it as follows.

Requirements

  1. Disk quotas are enabled and working on the server.
  2. In WHM, Server Configuration › Tweak Settings: cPanel's own inode count display is turned off, so CloudLinux can provide it.
  3. In WHM, Plugins › CloudLinux Manager › Options: Show end-user inode usage is enabled.

Users then see their inode usage in the statistics panel of cPanel. To find what uses the most inodes, run find ~ -xdev -type f | cut -d/ -f4 | sort | uniq -c | sort -rn | head in Terminal.

Note: Our shared hosting allows up to 300,000 inodes per account. Cache folders, sessions and old backups are the usual causes of high counts.
