Why some outgoing ports are restricted

On shared hosting, many accounts share one server and IP address. To protect that IP's reputation and the other customers, some outgoing ports are blocked. This stops a hacked script on one account from sending spam or attacking other networks.

If your application needs to connect to another port (for example an external database or an API), open a support ticket with the host and port. On a VPS or dedicated server there are no such restrictions.

Why a dedicated IP costs extra

IPv4 addresses are scarce, and we pay for each one. You do not need a dedicated IP for SSL: certificates work on shared IPs thanks to SNI. A dedicated IP is useful when you want your own sending reputation for email, or anonymous FTP.
