How to use the Index Manager in cPanel?

The Indexes tool (Index Manager in older cPanel) decides what visitors see when they open a folder of your website that has no index file.

Steps

1. Log in to cPanel (for example at https://yourdomain.com:2083, or from the Ucartz client area).
2. Open Advanced › Indexes.
3. Click a folder name to go into it, or click Edit next to the folder you want to change.
4. Choose one of the options below and click Save.

Options

• Default System Setting: follows the server's default.
• No Indexing: visitors get a "403 Forbidden" message instead of a file list. Recommended for most folders.
• Show Filename Only: a simple list of file names.
• Show Filename and Description: a list with file types and sizes, useful for public download folders.

The setting also applies to subfolders unless you set them differently.
