The default address (also called a catch-all) decides what happens to mail sent to addresses on your domain that do not exist, for example typos such as inof@example.com.

Steps

  1. Log in to cPanel (for example at https://yourdomain.com:2083, or from the Ucartz client area).
  2. Open Email › Default Address.
  3. Choose the domain.
  4. Pick what should happen to unrouted mail:
    • Discard the email while your server processes it by SMTP time with an error message: the sender gets a bounce. This is the recommended setting.
    • Forward to Email Address: every message goes to one mailbox (a catch-all).
    • Under Advanced Options: forward to your system account, pipe to a program, or discard without notice.
  5. Click Change.

Note: A catch-all collects large amounts of spam sent to made-up addresses, and can fill the mailbox. Use it only if you really need it.
