Ubuntu 18.04 is end of life. Cachet is an open-source status page for announcing outages and maintenance. Its last stable release is Cachet 2.4 (2023); Cachet 3 is being developed on the project's 3.x branch but has no stable release yet.
Options today
- Uptime Kuma: an actively maintained, self-hosted monitoring tool with public status pages, easy to run with Docker (
docker run -d --restart=always -p 127.0.0.1:3001:3001 -v uptime-kuma:/app/data --name uptime-kuma louislam/uptime-kuma). Put Nginx with HTTPS in front of port 3001. - Cachet 2.4: still runs on PHP 7.x/8.0-era stacks; install it only if you accept running an unmaintained application, ideally in a container.
- A hosted status page service, which keeps working even when your own server is down.
Tip: Host your status page on a different server or network from the services it reports on; otherwise it goes down together with them.
Moving to another application safely
- Back up the old application's files and database, and keep the backup until the new system has run for a while.
- Install the new application on a test subdomain first (for example
new.example.com) and import your data there. - Check the imported data and set up users and permissions.
- Switch the domain to the new application, and add 301 redirects for old addresses that change.
- Remove the old application from the server so it cannot be attacked later.
