"403 Forbidden" means the server refused the request. Check these causes in order:
- Missing index file: if a folder has no
index.htmlorindex.phpand listing is turned off, you get 403. Upload an index file. - Permissions: files should be
644and folders755. Folders set to700, or files to600, can cause 403. - .htaccess rules: look for
Deny from,Requireor IP blocks in.htaccessfiles; rename the file temporarily to test. - IP Blocker or firewall: check Security › IP Blocker. If only you get the error, your IP may be blocked after failed logins; open a ticket with your IP.
- ModSecurity: if a form or admin action is blocked, see "Disable ModSecurity in cPanel" and ask us to adjust the rule rather than switching protection off.
The error log (Metrics › Errors) usually names the exact reason.
