Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: cPanel & WHM 138 (WHM, root access)

cPanel, WHM and Webmail are served by a service called cpsrvd. If they stop responding while websites still work, restart it as root.

Restart the cPanel service

/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/restartsrv_cpsrvd

Other services

cPanel has a restart script for each service, for example:

/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/restartsrv_httpd # Apache
/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/restartsrv_mysql # MySQL / MariaDB
/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/restartsrv_exim # Exim (mail)
/usr/local/cpanel/scripts/restartsrv_dovecot # IMAP / POP3

Add --status to see whether a service is running. In WHM, Restart Services does the same from the browser.

Note: Restarting cpsrvd logs out everyone using cPanel and WHM; websites and email keep working.
