Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: phpMyAdmin 5.2 in cPanel & WHM 138

Adding a column (field) to a table lets it store new information.

Steps

  1. Open phpMyAdmin (in cPanel: Databases › phpMyAdmin) and click the database in the left panel.
  2. Click the table and open the Structure tab.
  3. Below the column list, enter how many columns to add and where (at end of table, at beginning or after a column), then click Go.
  4. Enter the Name, Type (for example VARCHAR with a length, INT or DATETIME), whether it may be Null, and a Default value.
  5. Click Save.

Note: Adding a column to a very large table can take a while and lock it. Do it at a quiet time.
