Reverse DNS (a PTR record) maps an IP address back to a host name. Mail servers check it, so every VPS that sends email needs a PTR record that matches its hostname.
Set it in the SolusVM admin panel
- Log in to the SolusVM admin area.
- Open IP Blocks › List IP Blocks and manage the block that contains the address.
- Find the IP address and click the entry in the reverse DNS column (it shows "not set" when empty).
- Enter the host name, for example
mail.example.com, and save.
SolusVM can only publish reverse DNS if the IP range is delegated to your DNS setup; otherwise, ask the provider that owns the IP range to set the PTR record.
Check it
dig -x 203.0.113.10 +short dig mail.example.com +short
The first command should return the host name, and the second the same IP address (forward-confirmed reverse DNS).
