How to install Wolf CMS on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

Updated 1 min read

Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: Open-source CMS options, 2026

Wolf CMS is no longer maintained (its last release was in 2015 and the project was archived in 2018). It receives no security fixes and may not run on current PHP versions, so we do not recommend installing it on a server connected to the internet.

Alternatives

  • WordPress or ClassicPress for blogs and simple websites.
  • Grav: a modern flat-file CMS (no database), light like Wolf CMS.
  • Bolt CMS: simple and developer-friendly (see "How to Install Bolt CMS on Fedora 29?").

Moving an existing Wolf CMS site

  1. Back up the files and the database.
  2. Copy the page content from the admin area (or the database table page_part) into the new CMS.
  3. Redirect the old page addresses to the new ones with 301 redirects so search engines follow.

Tip: On Ucartz cPanel hosting you can install many of these applications in a few clicks with Software › Softaculous Apps Installer, which also handles updates and backups.
