Updated: 28 September 2026 · Applies to: Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, AlmaLinux 9 and Rocky Linux 9 (Webmin 2.x)
CentOS 7 is end of life. Webmin is a free web interface for Linux administration: users, services, cron jobs, packages, firewall, disks and much more. The current release series is Webmin 2.x; these steps are for Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 12, AlmaLinux 9 and Rocky Linux 9.
Install from the Webmin repository
curl -o webmin-setup-repo.sh https://raw.githubusercontent.com/webmin/webmin/master/webmin-setup-repo.sh sh webmin-setup-repo.sh dnf install webmin # AlmaLinux / Rocky apt install --install-recommends webmin # Ubuntu / Debian
The repository keeps Webmin updated with your normal system updates.
Log in
Open https://SERVER-IP:10000 and log in as root (or a user with sudo). Accept the browser warning for the self-signed certificate the first time, then add a proper certificate in Webmin › Webmin Configuration › SSL Encryption (Let's Encrypt tab).
Secure it
- Allow port 10000 only from your own IP:
firewall-cmd --permanent --add-rich-rule='rule family="ipv4" source address="203.0.113.10" port port="10000" protocol="tcp" accept' && firewall-cmd --reloadorufw allow from 203.0.113.10 to any port 10000 proto tcp. - Enable two-factor authentication in Webmin Configuration › Two-Factor Authentication.
Tip: For web hosting (websites, mail, DNS per customer), add Virtualmin on top of Webmin; for general server administration, Webmin alone is enough.
