In the cPanel Store, Solo moves to $32.99 a month, Admin to $38.99, Pro to $58.99 and Premier to $76.99, with $0.55 for every account above 100. cPanel did add AI in version 138, including a way for Claude Code to work with cPanel. But the bigger change for many server owners is that AI coding agents such as Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex now make the command line easy enough that they need the control panel less. Below are the new prices, what else changes in 2026 and 2027, what we do differently at Ucartz now, and who should still pay for cPanel.

cPanel prices from 16 December 2026

These are cPanel’s own Store prices in US dollars, excluding VAT, from its 2027 pricing FAQ and the 2027 Store Licensing Guide. Only Premier grows automatically, at $0.55 per extra account.

Yearly billing saves a little. Since May 2026 the Store sells Solo, Admin and Pro yearly, which cPanel says saves about 8.4% against monthly billing. Premier is still monthly only.

The model is not changing. cPanel told its partners that the licensing model and the existing product codes stay the same, that it has no plans for a cheaper reduced version, and that the new partner prices will hold at least through the end of 2027. Its Store FAQ also says it “may make further pricing adjustments” in future.

Old servers cost extra. Servers still on CentOS 7 or CloudLinux 7 with cPanel version 110 pay an Extended Lifecycle Support fee per server on top of the licence through 2027.

If you bought your licence from a hosting company rather than directly from cPanel, your price is set by that company, but it follows the same direction. Whoever sold it, once a renewal is paid the server picks up the licence by itself, or at once with the cPanel license update command.

Seven years of increases

In June 2019 cPanel moved from per-server to per-account pricing. Trade press reported the starting prices at the time as $15 for Solo, $20 for Admin, $30 for Pro and $45 for Premier, with $0.20 per extra account, and reports that prices have gone up every year since except 2020. Compared with the official 2027 prices:

Licence

June 2019 (as reported)

From 16 December 2026

Increase

Solo

$15.00

$32.99

about +120%

Admin

$20.00

$38.99

about +95%

Pro

$30.00

$58.99

about +97%

Premier

$45.00

$76.99

about +71%

Each account above 100

$0.20

$0.55

about +175%

Put simply: a single-site server that paid $15 a month for its panel in 2019 pays $32.99 from this December. For comparison, our VPS Lite costs $10 a month ($36 billed yearly) for the whole server: 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM and 50 GB NVMe. The panel licence now costs more than three times the machine it runs on.

What else changes in cPanel in 2026 and 2027

Price is not the only thing moving. From cPanel’s own documentation and release notes:

Versions: cPanel ships a new version about every three months and one long-term support (LTS) version a year. Version 134 is the current LTS, with end of life around June 2027; version 138 is the current release.

Operating systems: AlmaLinux 10, Ubuntu 24.04 and CloudLinux 10 are supported. Rocky Linux was dropped in version 134, and version 136 is the last to support Ubuntu 22.04. If your server runs either, plan the move before your next major update.

Removed features: Site Publisher went in version 134; cPAddons and the Ruby on Rails interface went in 136. AWStats, Webalizer and Analog Stats are to be deprecated in version 140 and removed in 142, replaced by GoAccess, according to cPanel’s deprecation plan.

Scripting: since version 138 the cPanel interface no longer accepts HTTP Basic (username and password) authentication by default. Scripts should use cPanel’s UAPI or WHM API 1 with API tokens.

cPanel did add AI, in version 138

It would be wrong to say cPanel ignored AI. In September 2026 it announced cPanel AI in version 138, which it calls “the first set of AI capabilities built directly into the hosting platform”:

Meridian, a new goal-based interface next to the familiar Jupiter theme. cPanel says there is no separate licence fee for it.

An AI Assistant inside cPanel. According to its documentation, it only appears if your hosting provider turns it on, it stays inside your own account, it allows up to 100 requests a day, and it “always asks you to approve a change before it makes it”.

AI App Hosting for Node.js apps deployed from a ZIP file or a Git URL (subdomains only in the first release).

MCP support, which connects approved AI clients, including Claude Code and Claude Desktop, to cPanel with scoped permissions, such as limiting an agent to the user’s home directory.

Some of it is still early access for cPanel partners, and availability depends on your host and release tier. So cPanel has not forgotten AI. What it has to face is a different question: if an AI agent can already do the work on the server itself, how much of the panel do you still need?

What changed: AI agents work below the panel

A control panel exists because most people do not want to remember commands. You click “create database”, “add cron job” or “install SSL” and the panel runs the commands for you. AI coding agents such as Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex remove most of that reason. They run in a terminal on your machine or over SSH, read your files and logs, explain what they find, propose the commands and run them when you approve. You describe the result you want in plain words and the agent works out the steps. That way of working, describing the goal and letting the AI write the code or commands, is what people call vibe coding.

For server work, that means tasks people used to buy a panel for are now a sentence away: “create a database and a user for this app”, “why is this site returning 500 errors?”, “move this site to the new server and check nothing is missing”. The agent does not replace knowing what you want, and it needs limits (more on that below), but it removes the need to know every command by heart.

What we do at Ucartz now

We still sell and support cPanel, and many of our customers should keep it (see the next section). But inside Ucartz, our own work has moved away from the panel and toward the database and the shell, with AI agents doing much of the typing. Some real examples from the last few weeks:

We moved a site without a panel’s transfer tool

We recently moved one of our own sites to a new server, with an AI agent doing most of the work instead of a control panel’s transfer tool. The steps are the plain ones: dump the database, copy the files, import, then prove the copy is complete before anything is switched. That last step is where the agent earns its keep, because it never skips the boring checks. The terminal below shows the kind of check we mean, on a demo database: the same row count and the same checksum on the old and the new server.

Migration check on a demo database: the same row count and the same checksum on the old and the new server.

We read the database directly instead of clicking through screens

Our billing and support system is WHMCS. We run it with fewer add-on modules than we used to: when an SEO add-on became one more licence to pay for, we replaced it with a small script of our own. And when we need an answer from WHMCS, such as which knowledge base articles are too short, we ask the database in one query instead of opening dozens of admin pages. Here is that query on a demo copy of the knowledge base tables:

One query instead of dozens of admin pages: knowledge base articles per category and how many are short (demo data).

This week we refreshed more than 90 knowledge base articles in one day this way. AI agents rewrote them and tested every command on a separate test server; we then published the changes straight into the WHMCS database. Each batch went in behind two safety steps that anyone can copy. First, a full backup that is checked before any change:

Backup first: dump the database, test the archive and confirm the dump completed (demo database).

Second, guarded updates. Each change carries a fingerprint (a SHA-256 hash) of the text it expects to replace. If someone else edited the row in the meantime, the fingerprint no longer matches and the update changes nothing, instead of silently overwriting their work. In the demo below, the first update changes 1 row and the same update run again changes 0:

A guarded update: it changes 1 row the first time and 0 the second, because the text no longer matches its fingerprint (demo data).

Other apps read the data without an API

When another tool needs WHMCS data, such as an internal report or a sitemap, we read it from the database rather than writing code against an API. An API is the right choice when you need its business rules, but for reading and reporting, a query is simpler and faster. If you do the same, give each tool its own read-only database user, so a bug or a leaked password can read data but never change or delete it:

A read-only database user for other apps: it can count rows, but DELETE is denied (demo database, placeholder address).

Our rules for letting an AI agent touch production

Direct access is powerful, which is exactly why it needs rules. These are the ones we follow:

Back up first, and check the backup. A full database dump that has been tested, before every change.

Read-only by default. Looking, querying and reporting need no write access; give write access only for the change at hand.

Guard every write. Updates only apply if the data is still what you expected, and every change is read back afterwards.

Test somewhere else. Commands are tried on a separate test server or in throwaway containers before they reach a live server.

A person approves production changes. During our knowledge base work, the agent’s own safety checks stopped it twice: before it changed files of our billing system, and before it changed a web server rule. It went ahead only after we said yes. That is the behaviour you want.

Keep secrets out of the chat. Never paste passwords, API keys or configuration files with credentials into an AI tool; let the server read them where they are.

Our knowledge base has the step-by-step versions of these jobs, for example exporting and importing a MySQL or MariaDB database and dumping and importing large databases.

Who should keep paying for cPanel

A panel is still the right tool when the people using the server are not the people running it:

Shared hosting and resellers. Many separate accounts, each owner managing their own email, files, databases and backups without touching the others.

Agencies with non-technical clients. A client who needs to reset a mailbox password should not need SSH or an AI agent.

Email-heavy servers. cPanel’s mail, spam filtering and AutoSSL work out of the box, which takes real effort to build by hand.

Teams with no one comfortable approving shell commands. An AI agent is only as safe as the person who reads what it is about to do.

If that is you, we sell cPanel licences for your own VPS or dedicated server, cPanel web hosting, and a managed cPanel VPS where we handle updates, security and monitoring, and cPanel server management for hardening, migrations and monitoring of your own server. Our guide on what a managed VPS with cPanel gives you goes into more detail.

Who can drop the panel

One site, one app or one team on the server, run by people who can read a command before approving it.

Developers deploying Node.js, Python, PHP apps, n8n or AI tools, where the panel mostly gets in the way.

Anyone paying for Solo or Admin mainly for database, cron and SSL screens, which an agent can now handle from a sentence.

A KVM VPS with full root access is enough for that. If you want help with the risky parts, such as the first migration or a database change on a live system, hire an expert by the job: $8 per 15 minutes, $15 per 30 minutes or $28 per hour, with no contract.

Moving off a panel with an AI agent: a short checklist

List what the panel does for you today: sites, databases, mailboxes, cron jobs, SSL, DNS and backups. Anything on the list needs a new home before you switch.

Decide where email goes. Email is the hardest part to run yourself; many people move it to a separate mail service first.

Set up the new server and ask the agent to install only what the sites need (web server, PHP or Node.js, database), then review its plan before you approve it.

Copy files and databases, then check row counts and checksums like the screenshot above before you change DNS.

Lower the DNS TTL a day before, switch, and keep the old server for a week as a fallback.

Write down what you did. The agent can turn its own session into a runbook you can follow next time.

Frequently asked questions

When do cPanel prices go up?

On 16 December 2026 for cPanel Store customers, for new orders and for existing licences. If you buy through a hosting company, ask them; their price list follows their own schedule.

How much is a cPanel licence in 2027?

In the cPanel Store: Solo $32.99, Admin $38.99, Pro $58.99 and Premier $76.99 a month, plus $0.55 per account above 100 on Premier. Yearly billing for Solo, Admin and Pro is $362.89, $428.89 and $648.89.

Is cPanel AI free?

cPanel says there is no separate licence fee for the Meridian interface. Whether every AI feature is included in every tier is not stated clearly, some features are in early access, and the AI Assistant only appears if your host enables it. Check with your provider.

Can Claude Code manage a cPanel server?

Yes, in two ways. Through cPanel’s MCP support in version 138 and later, with scoped permissions, or over SSH like on any Linux server, where scripts should use cPanel’s UAPI and WHM API 1 with API tokens.

Is it safe to let an AI agent run commands on a live server?

It can be, if you keep the rules above: backups first, read-only by default, guarded writes, testing elsewhere, and a person approving every production change. Without those, it is as risky as letting anyone else type on your server.

I renewed my licence. How do I make the server use it?

Run
/usr/local/cpanel/cpkeyclt
as root. Our guide to the cPanel license update command explains the output, and this one covers what to do if the update fails.

The price of a panel keeps rising; the cost of not having one keeps falling. Whichever side you are on, Ucartz can host it: cPanel licences and managed cPanel servers if the panel earns its place, or a plain KVM VPS and an expert on call if you would rather let an AI agent and a good set of rules do the work.

cPanel prices rise on 16 December 2026: Solo $32.99, Pro $58.99, Premier $76.99.
